Thermo....Which One Is It?

A thermometer has one purpose and one purpose only. No matter how cute or fancy you might make one, it's sole function is to tell you the temperature. It has no control over the temperature, it just tells you what the temperature is.

A thermostat on the other hand controls the temperature. You set it and it controls the heater or air conditioner to make the temperature of the room match what it is set to.

My question to you is are you a spiritual thermometer or a spiritual thermostat? When you walk into a room or enter a conversation, do you wait to see what the predominant subject is and flow with it without regards to your beliefs or the Bible? Or when you are having a conversation and questionable material is brought up do you put the conversation brakes on and say, 'I don't think we should be talking about this.'

It's hard, I know. Everyone is talking about See No Evil and eventhough you know that you shouldn't talk about things as evil as that, let alone see the movie, you get drawn in. Or they are talking about one Code or another and you don't want to feel like a geek, so you join in.

But what does the Bible say about thermostats and thermometers? Romans 12:2, "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect."

And 1 John 2:15 "Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him."

My prayer for all of you is that you find the strength to be thermostats and not thermometers in your schools and at your jobs. As always, if you have any questions just zip me a note and I'll get back to you ASAP.

Sola Scriptura
